In April 2023, following Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulatory action, CDC simplified COVID-19 vaccine recommendations. The changes allow people at higher risk to get added protection from additional COVID-19 vaccine doses.

The federal government announced that COVID-19 vaccine will transition to the commercial marketplace–likely in Fall 2023.

  • COVID-19 vaccine will be available through the Childhood Vaccine Program for people 0-18 years. Learn more about enrolling in the program.
  • The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced their Bridge Access Program to ensure access to vaccines and treatments for uninsured adults.

If these options don’t work, give people a Washington Immunization Information System (WAIIS) or electronic health record printout.

Have excess vaccine? Advertise it on the marketplace.

  • Advertise extra doses close to expiration so other providers can use it.
  • Check for extra doses before placing your weekly vaccine order.

Addressing vaccine safety

Report after-vaccine adverse events to CDC’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS).

CDC discontinued enrollment in v-safe for COVID-19 vaccines on May 19, 2023. Patients can report any adverse events using VAERS.
